Why odour develops
Dust, pollen and fibres can adhere to the damp evaporator. If airflow stops while the core remains wet, residues retain moisture and odour-producing growth may establish.
Leaves in the plenum, a saturated filter, spilled drink, wet carpet or rodent nesting can smell similar. Locate the strongest source before choosing chemistry.

Flammable aerosols and solvent vapour
Propellants and some cleaner solvents can form ignitable mixtures. Eliminate smoking, hot work, heaters, sparks and other ignition sources before application.
Ventilation must control exposure without carrying vapour towards another ignition source. Do not leave a running engine in an enclosed workshop to operate the blower.

Refrigerant boundaries
Cleaning the air side must not disturb charging ports, pipes or compressor fittings. Never use a cleaner probe in a refrigerant service connection.
Refrigerant recovery and circuit work require the correct equipment, refrigerant identification and applicable competence. Deliberate venting is not a cleaning step.
Pre-cleaning inspection
Record the odour, when it occurs, cooling performance, blower speeds and mode operation. Inspect the filter and intake for leaves, water or nesting material before circulating any aerosol.
