Fastener engagement and leverage
- Six-point contact: loads broad hex flats and suits high resistance.

Ratchets and sockets
Ratchets speed repetitive turning but their pawls are not substitutes for a breaker bar. Keep load square to the drive. Use impact sockets, retaining pins and rings specified for impact equipment; their ductile construction differs from polished hand sockets.
Pliers and cutters
Combination, long-nose, circlip, hose-clamp and locking pliers have distinct jaw geometry. Cutters have stated wire capacities; hardened spring wire can notch edges intended for copper. Locking pliers damage pipe unions and are not a controlled hose clamp.
Hammers, chisels and punches
Match hammer face to the struck tool and material. Steel-on-hardened-steel impact can produce chips. Mushroomed punch heads should be withdrawn from service rather than dressed casually if heat treatment or shape would be affected.
Torque wrenches
A torque wrench is a measuring instrument. Use it within its specified range, grip point and direction. It does not verify thread friction, bolt condition or achieved clamp load, so follow lubrication and replacement instructions exactly.

Electrical, fuel and stored-energy hazards
Disconnecting a battery does not make high-voltage hybrid systems safe. Electrical work needs trained personnel, verified isolation and correctly rated tools. Jewellery and metal hand tools can short high-current battery terminals even on conventional 12-volt vehicles.
Springs, pressurised fluids, airbags, gas struts and loaded suspension parts store energy. Service instructions may require cages, compressors, pullers or remote release methods. A hand tool's physical fit does not make an unsafe dismantling method acceptable.
Care, storage and calibration
