If the circuit identity or expected value is uncertain, stop before connecting. First obtain the correct diagram and connector view. Never use trial power injection to discover what a wire does, and do not rely on colour alone when harnesses have repairs or shared colour codes.

Circuit testers and controlled power injection

Power Probe states that PP3EZ works on 12/24 V DC automotive systems and can indicate voltage/polarity, apply power or ground, and test certain motors, blowers, lamps, wires and fuses. Its thermal circuit breaker limits tool current but does not protect every vehicle wire, module or component. The Basic tester title also says 12 V; verify its own manual rather than transferring PP3EZ functions or limits.

Before activation, disconnect the target load when the service procedure requires it, identify polarity and expected current, and ensure movement cannot injure anyone. Put leads in the correct jacks before connecting and remove them before changing internal fuses. Current measurement usually places the meter in series and can create a direct short if the lead remains in the amperage jack for a voltage test. Insulation and two-pole high-voltage testing
