Finished dimensions should cover slopes and overlap
A sheet's nominal size must cover the object plus fall to shed water, overlap at joints and reach safe tie points. Draping over corners consumes length and width. Pulling a nearly adequate sheet drum-tight increases eyelet load and removes useful movement.

Wind pressure grows quickly with speed
A broad sheet behaves like a sail. Gusts create suction and alternating loads that fatigue eyelets and anchors. Flapping also abrades anything underneath. Shelter, smaller supported spans and more distributed ties reduce movement.

Condensation can occur under a waterproof sheet
Moist air trapped around cooling metal can condense even when no rain enters. Covering wet equipment accelerates corrosion and mould. Provide ventilation where the protected material permits it and use spacers that do not puncture the sheet.
A sealed tarpaulin is inappropriate for storage items that need continuous airflow unless the complete enclosure is designed for it.
Sharp corners need independent padding
Metal edges, protruding bolts and timber corners concentrate tension and can cut through coating in wind. Fit stable edge protectors or remove the hazard before draping the sheet. Padding must not absorb contaminants or migrate out.
Do not rely on multiple folded layers over a razor edge as a long-term wear solution.
Heat and flame limitations must be explicit
Many general-purpose tarpaulins soften, shrink, burn or produce hazardous smoke near exhausts, heaters, welding and grinding. Colour does not identify flame-retardant performance. Use a certified welding curtain or fire-resistant cover for hot work.
