Lamborghini models divide into distinct architectures
Gallardo and Huracán are not simply different bodies over one unchanged V10 system. Aventador follows a separate V12, carbon-structure and transmission path. Urus is a front-engined turbocharged SUV with different mass, chassis and automatic transmission, while newer electrified cars add high-voltage boundaries.
Start with VIN, build date, derivative, market, engine, transmission, driven axles, brakes, suspension and wheel options. Preserve installed labels and scan identity before dismantling.
Supplier ancestry is only the first line of evidence
A part can share a supplier or broad group design and still differ in internal specification, software, connector usage, bracket or thermal capacity. Lamborghini option data and model-specific supersessions take priority over visual similarity.
Check dimensions, handedness, operating range and calibration. When a supersession requires a matching pair, adapter or software update, treat the instruction as part of fitment.
Create an option-controlled component record
| Evidence | Controls | Extra confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| VIN/build sequence | Generation, market and running change. | Previous retrofit. |
| Engine/transmission IDs | Service parts, fluids and software. | Installed label and scan. |
| Brake option/material | Disc, pad, caliper and wheel. | Wear assessment method. |
| Suspension/chassis option | Damper, lifter, steering and calibration. | Current ride height. |
| Wheel/tyre specification | Offset, loading and rolling relationship. | Clearance through full travel. |
| Diagnostic configuration | Controller hardware and software. | Coding or security requirement. |
V10 service parts follow engine generation
Gallardo and Huracán can differ in injection, ignition, intake, exhaust, oil circulation, mounts and management. Identify exact engine code and production phase. Do not choose coils, injectors, pumps or filters solely from cylinder count.
Misfire diagnosis includes compression, leak-down, spark, injector operation, fuel pressure, air leakage and mechanical timing. Protect catalysts by avoiding repeated running with an active misfire.
V12 systems require their own heat and timing plan
Aventador and other V12 families use unique packaging, cooling, lubrication and exhaust shielding. Work methodically across banks and retain component position. An imbalance can reflect air, fuel, ignition, compression or sensor-reference issues.
Account for every shield, clamp and ground. Radiant exhaust heat can damage body, hose or loom when a small protection item is omitted.
Urus brings SUV mass and turbocharged duty
Urus brakes, tyres, suspension and driveline carry much higher mass and load than a two-seat supercar. Confirm axle limits, towing data where relevant and wheel load rating. A spring or tyre replacement cannot increase plated capacity.
Turbo faults need charge-air leak testing, requested/actual pressure comparison, wastegate control, oil and coolant path inspection and exhaust assessment. Do not replace a turbo from a single underboost code.
Oil and coolant belong to the exact engine
| Fluid area | Evidence required | Incorrect shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | Engine code, approval, viscosity and level state. | Choosing “performance oil” by marketing. |
| Engine coolant | Approved chemistry, circuit and bleed process. | Identifying compatibility by colour. |
| Manual/e-gear | Gear and hydraulic circuits separately. | Calling every fill automatic fluid. |
| Dual-clutch gearbox | Unit, filter, fill temperature and adaptation. | Using a universal DCT product. |
| Urus automatic/axles | Transmission, transfer and differential IDs. | One oil for all housings. |
| Hybrid thermal system | High-voltage isolation and circuit-specific fluid. | Opening it as an engine hose. |
Dry-sump or electronic levels require exact conditions
Follow the model procedure for temperature, engine state, level ground and waiting time. A cold reading or delayed display can lead to overfill. Use only the specified filter and seals and inspect lines disturbed during service.
Shut down immediately for an oil-pressure warning. Confirm actual pressure and supply paths before assuming an electrical fault.
Cooling capacity depends on clean airflow
Low noses and complex radiator stacks collect road debris. Inspect all layers, ducts, shutters and fans. Pressure-test cold, compare inlet/outlet temperatures and activate pumps or valves diagnostically.
After-run activity may be intentional
Fans and pumps can continue to control heat after shutdown. Do not disable them because they appear to drain the battery; test supply, command and excessive heat generation instead.
Transmission type changes the diagnostic language
Traditional manual, automated single-clutch, dual-clutch and torque-converter transmissions have different failure evidence. Record gear selection, clutch values, pressure, temperature, voltage and adaptation before reset.
An adaptation procedure belongs after correct mechanical repair, fluid level and actuator installation. It cannot restore a worn clutch, leaking hydraulic unit or damaged gearbox.
Carbon-ceramic brake inspection is not an iron-disc check
Follow the applicable condition method, damage limits and wear indicators for the ceramic rotor. Thickness alone may not describe serviceability. Handle rotors with protected tools and avoid grease or aggressive cleaners.
Use the correct compatible pads and sensors. A chipped edge, impact mark or material change needs assessment to the exact specification, not resurfacing on ordinary brake equipment.
Iron brake packages still vary by derivative
Record diameter, thickness, offset, ventilation and caliper casting. Match axle friction and restore ducts. Use electronic parking-brake service mode where fitted and complete the correct bleed routine.
Verify brake balance and heat after controlled bedding. A pedal that changes or a wheel that becomes abnormally hot is a stop condition.
All-wheel drive depends on compatible rolling size
Use approved front and rear tyre specifications, which may be intentionally staggered. Compare pressure, wear and circumference. An incorrect single tyre can affect differential and stability-control operation.
Inspect wheel barrel, offset, fastener seat and load rating. Static clearance does not prove clearance at full lock, bump and brake temperature.
Nose-lift and aerodynamic systems need complete restoration
Front-axle lifting equipment can include hydraulic or electro-hydraulic pressure, actuators, hoses, switches, sensors and control logic. A vehicle that settles or will not lower needs leakage, pressure and position diagnosis. Support the structure independently and release stored pressure by the specified method.
Active spoilers, flaps and cooling shutters rely on undamaged hinges, actuators, position feedback and airflow paths. After bumper, undertray or collision work, confirm free movement and correct fasteners. Do not manually force an actuator or substitute a fixed position without engineering and diagnostic evidence.
Ride-height change affects alignment, headlamp aim, brake-duct position and camera or radar references. Complete chassis setup at the normal specified state and calibrate relevant systems before assuming a warning is only cosmetic.
Carbon and aluminium structures need controlled lifting
Use the designated jacking points, blocks and lift sequence. Avoid loading floors, aerodynamic panels or battery protection. After an impact, measure structural datums before aligning wheels.
Composite repair requires model-approved materials, scarf geometry and cure. Aluminium joining needs contamination and heat control. Cosmetic straightness is not a structural test.
High-voltage derivatives require specialist isolation
Trained personnel must secure the vehicle, prevent charging or remote wake-up, follow the documented shutdown and verify absence of dangerous voltage. Capacitors and batteries can remain energised when the engine is silent.
Battery impact changes workshop risk
Deformation, coolant leakage, unusual temperature, odour, hiss or smoke calls for a quarantine and emergency plan. Do not lift or charge a suspect vehicle until it is assessed by competent personnel.
Electronics and ADAS need stable physical references
Load-test the low-voltage supply and grounds because multiple warnings can share one voltage cause. Save all-module data before programming or replacement.
Set tyre pressures, ride height and geometry before calibrating steering, cameras or radar. Inspect brackets and body position; software cannot compensate for a bent mount.
Fault severity controls the next movement
| Condition | Evidence path | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Red oil-pressure message | Correct level state and mechanical pressure. | Switch off engine. |
| Fuel or heavy oil smoke | Leak source, turbo/engine and exhaust heat. | Stop; remove ignition risk. |
| Gear engagement unstable | Voltage, pressure, clutch and actuator data. | Recover vehicle. |
| Ceramic disc damage | Material-specific inspection limits. | Do not road-test. |
| Tyre or wheel impact | Tyre, rim, hub, arm and structure. | Avoid movement until assessed. |
| High-voltage warning | Isolation, leakage and thermal diagnostics. | Stop charge/use and secure area. |

MOT compliance is not a performance approval
The UK test covers defined brakes, steering, tyres, structure, lighting, visibility, restraints, emissions and warnings. It does not confirm track readiness, ceramic-disc health beyond its test scope, option coding or high-voltage isolation.
Power, exhaust, wheel, brake, suspension and software changes require engineering consideration, insurance disclosure and compliance with road noise and emissions rules.
