Renovo: understand the range before choosing
Renovo International makes specialist products for convertible fabric roofs, marine canvas and vehicle interiors. The current collection contains three sequential fabric-soft-top treatments—Cleaner, black Reviver and Ultra Proofer—plus a separate Black Leather Reviver for interior upholstery. Similar colour-restoration wording does not make the roof and leather products interchangeable.
AutoMotoPart currently lists 4 Renovo items. The largest Renovo groups are 4 valeting entries. Renovo totals can change, so a category count is orientation rather than proof that a particular reference suits a vehicle, workplace or job. The exact Renovo listing, its current technical information and the item in front of you must agree.
What the Renovo page actually covers
| Product group in this range | Current entries | Selection focus |
|---|---|---|
| Valeting | 4 | Match fabric or leather substrate, colour, preparation, product sequence, coverage, application weather, drying time and surrounding-material protection. |
Three 500ml entries form a fabric-roof system: Cleaner prepares, black Reviver recolours and Ultra Proofer restores a weather-repellent barrier. The 200ml Black Leather Reviver is a separate interior treatment. Cleaner and Proofer are not colour-specific in the same way as black Reviver, while Leather Reviver must remain attached to compatible black leather only.
Build a reliable shortlist
Inspect the complete roof or seat under good light. Record staining, fading, prior coatings, water-beading, seam condition, window bonding, abrasion and repaired areas. A test patch should reproduce every planned step, including drying, because initial wet colour cannot predict the final evenness or adhesion of later treatment.
| Check | Why it matters | Useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric Cleaner | Removes dirt and residual treatment before restoration | Fabric roof, colourfast test, soiling and rinse access |
| Black Reviver | Recolours supported black fabric after thorough preparation | Confirmed fabric, black colour, even absorption and enough quantity |
| Ultra Proofer | Final water-repellent layer on clean dry fabric | No pending Reviver, suitable weather and complete coverage |
| Black Leather Reviver | Cleans and recolours supported black leather upholstery | Leather type, coating condition, black colour and hidden test |
| Existing damage | Chemicals cannot repair seams, tears, delamination or frame leaks | Physical inspection and specialist repair where needed |
| Working conditions | Sun, heat, wind and rain can cause rapid or uneven drying | Cool shaded area and protected dry period |
Do not buy only from the word Reviver. Fabric Soft Top Reviver is a roof-colour product, whereas Black Leather Reviver is an interior upholstery treatment with a different substrate and method. Keep the labels and tools separate throughout the work.
Fabric Soft Top Cleaner comes first
Renovo's official directions say to dry-brush loose debris, mist the roof, apply Cleaner evenly with a suitable clean brush and allow the specified dwell before gentle agitation with warm water. Work from the centre towards edges, control runoff and rinse thoroughly. Repeat rather than increasing pressure or adding an unrelated detergent.
The cleaner is for fabric roofs and should not be transferred to vinyl by assumption. Protect plastic windows, paint and bright trim from prolonged drips. Green growth and ingrained dirt may require extended treatment according to the current label, but inspect whether the fabric, stitching or adhesive has already deteriorated. Cleaning cannot restore rotten cloth or failed seams.
Black Fabric Soft Top Reviver
Reviver requires a uniformly clean fabric with earlier waterproofer removed. Renovo explains that residual proofer prevents even absorption and can produce patchiness. Use a simulated light shower after cleaning only as the supported test: fabric should wet evenly before colour work begins, then be allowed to dry fully again.
Shake or mix as directed and combine multiple bottles in a clean container when needed for consistent colour. Test black colour out of sight, calculate enough for a whole coat and keep freshly applied edges wet to avoid join lines. Use a clean brush, progress from the centre and remove splashes from paint, glass and trim immediately with the stated method. Do not apply to vinyl, in direct sun or on a hot roof.
Ultra Proofer is the final roof stage
Ultra Proofer follows cleaning and any Reviver coats; putting it on first can block later colour penetration. Renovo instructs users to stir rather than automatically shake this product, apply to a clean dry fabric top and keep enough material available to complete the coat without dry joins. Protect adjacent surfaces and work in a suitable shaded temperature range.
Water beading immediately after application is not the only completion check. Allow the full dry period before folding the roof, exposing it to rain or applying another product. Inspect seams and drain channels separately because a treated outer fabric does not repair frame, header, window or stitch leakage. Reproofing intervals depend on use, storage, weather and the current Renovo guidance rather than a fixed promise.
Black Leather Reviver stays inside
Renovo specifies Black Leather Reviver for black leather only. Remove dry dust and grease, then test the complete clean–apply–buff–dry process in a concealed area. Some automotive seating uses coated, perforated or mixed leather-and-vinyl panels, so confirm each section before colour crosses a seam. Do not fill cracks or hide structural wear with repeated wet coats.
Wear protective gloves and use a clean soft lint-free cloth. Apply small amounts with controlled circular movements, buff away excess with another cloth and avoid speakers, perforations, headlining, carpet, contrast stitching and controls. Leave doors ventilated as appropriate and allow the seat to dry thoroughly before contact with clothing. Check for colour transfer with a clean pale cloth before normal use.
Weather, masking and aftercare
Choose a cool shaded workspace with enough dry time and no forecast rain. Wind can carry cleaner or colour onto paint; direct sun can dry products before they level. Mask only with materials known to be safe for the finish and remove protection before adhesive bakes on. Keep separate brushes and cloths for Cleaner, Reviver, Proofer and Leather Reviver.
After a roof treatment has cured, inspect colour in several lighting conditions, confirm windows and seals operate, and fold the hood only when the instructions permit. For leather, check touch, sheen and transfer after drying. Store closed containers above their minimum storage temperature, away from children and sunlight, and follow the current safety sheet for eye contact, skin exposure and disposal.
From identification to a checked result
| Stage | Good practice for this range | Mistake to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Identify | Confirm fabric or leather, colour, previous treatment and physical condition | Using a Reviver because the name sounds suitable |
| Test | Complete a hidden compatibility and final-colour test | Judging only while the patch is wet |
| Prepare | Clean, rinse or degrease as the exact substrate requires | Applying colour over soil, grease or waterproofer |
| Apply | Use the right tool, wet-edge sequence, coverage and protected conditions | Working in sun or running out halfway |
| Dry and verify | Allow full cure, inspect evenness, leaks, transfer and function | Folding the roof or using seats while damp |
Record substrate, colour, test result, products, batch references, number of coats, working temperature and dry time. Note any untreated damage separately. That creates a useful maintenance history without implying that renewed colour or beading proves the roof structure and seals are sound.
Reading real Renovo references
The Renovo names below are examples from the current range and show why the complete description matters. They are not universal Renovo recommendations and should not be treated as a fitment list. Within Renovo, a shared family word can conceal a different dimension, connector, material, pack format, operating condition or installation side.
| Example listing | What to verify beyond the name |
|---|---|
| Soft Top Canvas Cleaner - 500ml | Fabric Soft Top Cleaner 500ml, fabric identity, colourfast test, dwell, gentle brushing and complete rinse |
| Soft Top Reviver - Black - 500ml | Black Fabric Soft Top Reviver 500ml, previous-proofer removal, enough product, wet edges and full drying |
| Soft Top Ultra Proofer - 500ml | Fabric Soft Top Ultra Proofer 500ml, final-stage order, stirring, dry weather, complete coat and cure |
| Leather Reviver - Black - 200ml | Black Leather Reviver 200ml, supported black leather, hidden test, gloves, lint-free application and transfer check |
The roof products form an order of work rather than four alternatives: clean, revive colour if required, then proof. Leather Reviver sits outside that sequence. Current labels and safety sheets control exact dwell, coat and dry details under the actual conditions.

- Pressure-washing fabric or scrubbing stitched areas aggressively.
- Using Black Leather Reviver on an unidentified synthetic or differently coloured panel.
- Allowing drips to dry on paint, glass, trim or contrast stitching.
- Folding the roof or sitting on leather before complete drying.
