Do not use treatment as permission to run an engine that cannot maintain coolant, has severe contamination, will not start, is mechanically noisy or rapidly overheats. Diagnose the failure and its original cause

White exhaust vapour after warm-up, coolant loss, bubbles, pressure, overheating and coolant in oil can indicate a head-gasket path, but each has alternatives. Know what a pour-in treatment cannot rebuild

Steel Seal advertises results for blown gaskets, some cracked heads/blocks and dropped-liner symptoms. Those are manufacturer intended-use claims, not a guarantee for an individual engine. A gap can be too large; a head can be warped beyond limit; a block can be cracked into an oil gallery; a liner can have lost support; bolts or threads can have failed. Liquid cannot re-machine faces or restore clamping force.

The product reaches coolant-wetted paths. It will not fix a pure external oil leak, worn rings, valve damage, low oil pressure, broken timing components or hydrolock damage. Coolant in oil compromises bearings and lubrication. Continued running may turn a repairable engine into an uneconomic one. Choose mechanical strip/measure/pressure-test repair where safety, reliability or asset value requires certainty.

Prepare coolant and oil exactly

Steel Seal's UK instructions say it works with most standard antifreezes but not recommended with long-life, extended-life or OAT coolant. When uncertain, drain and refill with plain water for treatment, then restore the vehicle maker's coolant after success is confirmed. Capture old coolant safely; ethylene glycol is toxic and attractive to animals. Never release it to drains.

Set heater to hot and fan maximum, start and warm to normal operating temperature so the thermostat opens. Then idle for 30 minutes under the current UK instructions. Watch the gauge and scan data, coolant level/leak and heater output. Stop safely if temperature rises abnormally, coolant ejects, circulation is lost or mechanical noise appears. Never accelerate or continue to ‘make it cure’ while overheating.

Verify after cooling; do not assume success
