The range contains six entries and one garment family. Each title says Tyvek 500 Xpert, hooded coverall and pack of 25; only size changes. Official body-measurement ranges progress from S at 84–92 cm chest and 162–170 cm height to 3XL at 124–132 cm chest and 192–200 cm height. If DuPont's published test chemical or challenge does not represent the workplace exposure, obtain specialist selection advice. Do not extrapolate a fabric result to an untested mixture, hot liquid, pressurised jet or complete suit with different interfaces.
Type 5-B and 6-B boundaries
Tyvek 500 Xpert is officially classified as Category III Type 5-B and 6-B chemical protective clothing. Type 5 addresses airborne solid particulates at whole-suit level; Type 6 addresses limited protective performance against low-level liquid spray. The ‘B’ suffix relates to EN 14126 infective-agent requirements. None of those labels means gas-tight, liquid-tight or suitable for immersion, jets or every biological challenge.
Review the instruction's fabric penetration and permeation tables plus seam information. DuPont states that stitched seams do not provide a liquid-permeation barrier. Whole-suit leakage depends on design, fit, movement and any specified closure/taping. Where exposure can reach through seams or under cuffs, select a more protective ensemble rather than adding improvised tape to make an unsupported claim.
EN 1073-2 and EN 1149-5 are conditional
EN 1073-2 evidence concerns protection against particulate radioactive contamination. It does not block radiation and cannot replace time, distance, shielding, monitoring or controlled-area procedures. Only trained radiation-protection personnel should specify its use, interfaces and disposal in that context.
DuPont describes antistatic treatment on both sides and EN 1149-5 performance when properly grounded. The wearer and garment system must remain grounded as the instructions require. The coverall is not tested as flame-resistant clothing, so electrostatic wording must never be used to justify work near sparks, welding, hot surfaces, arc hazards or explosive atmospheres without the complete assessment.
Sizing from S through 3XL
DuPont's current chart gives these chest/height ranges in centimetres: S 84–92/162–170; M 92–100/168–176; L 100–108/174–182; XL 108–116/180–188; 2XL 116–124/186–194; and 3XL 124–132/192–200. Measure over the clothing worn underneath and follow DuPont's method where measurements fall into different size bands.
Trial the complete ensemble by reaching, crouching, turning and using tools. Check that the crotch, shoulders and zip are not strained and that excess fabric cannot enter moving equipment. Confirm hood seal/interface with the selected respirator and eye protection without dislodging either. Do not roll sleeves/legs or cut the garment to improve fit.
Inspection, donning and task control
Store garments clean, dry and protected in their packaging. Before donning, check model, size, expiry/storage information where stated, seams, zip, flap and fabric for holes or contamination. Dress in the clean area using the trained sequence and inspect the completed ensemble with assistance where required. Keep sharp tools and abrasive edges from the material.
Maintain an entry/exit log where the risk assessment requires it. Monitor heat strain, visibility and wearer condition, because a lightweight coverall still adds thermal burden. Leave immediately after a tear, zip failure, interface displacement, unexpected splash or alarm. Emergency removal and first-aid arrangements must be planned before entry, not improvised after contamination.
Doffing and contaminated-garment disposal
Move to the designated doffing zone without spreading contamination. Follow the trained removal sequence, turning contaminated outer material inward and avoiding contact with skin or clothing. A competent assistant may need their own PPE. Remove gloves, RPE and other components in the risk-assessed order, then wash exposed skin and report any suspected breach.
Do not shake, brush, compress or launder a contaminated coverall by assumption. Package it in the labelled waste container for the actual chemical, biological or radioactive contaminant. Clean reusable boots or respirator components only by their approved decontamination process. Record garment failure or unusual contamination so the PPE selection can be reviewed before the task repeats.
