The seven entries do not represent seven specifications: they are B1711B Amsterdam in consecutive UK sizes 6 through 12. Every title repeats S3S ESD CI LG FO SR and black/orange. Do not size up automatically to solve width pressure because excessive length can allow heel lift and toe movement inside the cap. If the Amsterdam last does not suit the foot, choose a different approved model or width rather than accepting an unstable fit.
Understanding S3S
EN ISO 20345 specifies safety footwear with protective toe caps and basic and optional performance requirements. Under the 2022 classification, S3S builds on the relevant closed, antistatic, heel-energy and water-resistant-upper requirements and adds non-metallic PS penetration resistance and a cleated outsole. The S suffix refers to the smaller test-nail route for the non-metallic insert, not a promise that no object can ever penetrate.
The B1711B sheet identifies a SlimCap toe and Fresh'n Flex Plus Super Light insert. Metal-free construction can reduce weight and metal detection concerns, but it does not make the shoe suitable for live electrical work. Toe and penetration components are integrated systems; do not bend-test, cut or drill them, and replace the shoe after a serious impact or puncture event.
ESD and CI boundaries
ESD footwear is designed to help control electrostatic charge in a suitable electrostatic-protected-area system. Performance relies on the person, socks, approved insole, shoe condition and floor. It must be checked under the site's IEC-based programme. ESD is not the same as dielectric footwear and must not be selected as protection from mains electricity or exposed conductors.
CI indicates tested cold insulation of the sole complex under the relevant standard method. It does not establish comfort duration in every freezer, outdoor temperature or wind condition, and it does not replace thermal socks or a cold-work plan. Added socks change volume and fit, so try the shoe in the full cold-weather arrangement without compromising toe clearance or ESD requirements.
LG, FO and SR markings
LG denotes an outsole design tested for ladder grip, while FO indicates resistance of the outsole to fuel oil. These marks do not approve every ladder angle, rung, hydrocarbon, solvent or prolonged immersion. Follow ladder selection and three-point-contact rules, clean contamination promptly and take footwear out of service if the sole swells, softens or separates.
SR identifies an additional slip-resistance test on a defined ceramic and glycerol condition. Real floors combine water, oil, swarf, dust, gradients and worn tread, so no footwear is slip-proof. Maintain housekeeping, choose walking routes and inspect the tread. Replace the pair when lugs are rounded or clogged beyond effective cleaning.
Size, width and authorised footbeds
Measure both feet while standing because one is often longer or wider, and allow for normal shift swelling. Use the current Base size chart to convert into the UK sizes offered. During try-on, toes should move without touching the cap, the widest foot should not be compressed and the heel should remain controlled. Check stairs and crouching without allowing the upper to cut into the foot.
The manufacturer publishes width information and lists certified footbed options for B1711B. An aftermarket insole can raise the foot into the toe cap, reduce internal length or change electrical performance. Use only combinations approved for the model and workplace. Where an orthotic is medically required, obtain an authorised safety-footwear solution rather than removing the supplied footbed casually.
Inspection, cleaning and replacement
Before each shift, inspect upper cuts, stitching, lace or closure function, toe-area deformation, punctures, sole adhesion and tread. Look inside for sharp wear or a displaced footbed.
