Fuse selection and circuit diagnosis
A fuse protects wiring by opening when current exceeds the intended limit. Replace it with the same recognised format and the rating specified for the circuit. Colours can assist identification within a fuse family, but size and stamped amp value remain essential because colours should not be used to compare unlike formats. Never bridge a fuse with wire or foil, and never increase its rating as a response to repeat failure.
Before fitting another fuse, switch off the affected load and inspect the circuit. Strip only enough insulation for the terminal, leaving copper strands clean and uncut. Use a crimper designed for the terminal type; crushing with general pliers can produce a joint that looks closed but has little mechanical retention. After crimping, carry out a controlled pull check and inspect the conductor and insulation crimps. Route the repair along the protected loom path and secure it away from exhaust heat, sharp brackets and moving linkages.
Replacement H4 or H7 bulb holders with a short loom can address heat-damaged connections, but the original cause still needs attention. Choose hose clips by their usable clamping range, not nominal hose size alone. The clip must tighten within its designed range without cutting the hose or bottoming out. Cooling, fuel, washer and vacuum hoses have different material requirements; sharing a convenient diameter does not make one hose suitable for another fluid or temperature.
Brake-pipe unions and bleed screws

DVSA's registration-plate guidance is unusually specific about fixings: a screw or bolt must not alter a character's appearance or legibility. Select cap colour and location with that in mind. Check behind the panel before drilling, use corrosion protection where appropriate and avoid cracking the reflective plate by overtightening.
Tapes have defined but limited roles. PVC insulation tape can finish a suitable low-voltage wiring repair or bundle a loom, yet it cannot replace a mechanically sound connection and strain relief.
