If the filler cannot be identified or the vehicle does not specify ISO 22241 AdBlue/DEF, do not pour. If diesel, coolant, screenwash or another fluid enters the AdBlue tank—or AdBlue enters diesel—do not start the engine; obtain recovery and manufacturer guidance.

ISO 22241 purity protects the SCR system

Air1 is Yara's automotive urea solution made from high-purity urea and demineralised water. The nominal urea concentration is 32.5%. In the exhaust, the vehicle meters it upstream of the SCR catalyst; it is not mixed with diesel in the tank. ISO 22241 covers quality and handling so minerals, metals and other contaminants do not poison or block the dosing system.

Do not substitute fertiliser urea solution, homemade mixture or water. Do not add de-icer, anti-crystallisation product or biocide unless the vehicle maker explicitly specifies an approved product. Dilution changes concentration, and tap water adds minerals. The safest chain is sealed compliant pack, clean filler and dedicated transfer equipment.

Identify the dedicated tank before pouring

AdBlue fillers are often blue but location varies. Some sit beside the diesel neck; others are in the boot/load area or engine bay. Read the cap text, not colour alone. Switch off, secure the vehicle and prevent a second person from starting it. Remove dirt without pushing debris into the opening and keep the diesel nozzle and fuel cap away from the AdBlue spout.

The flexible spout supplied behind the instructions is intended to reduce spillage, but it does not make misfuelling impossible. Fit it without touching its internal surfaces. Pour slowly and maintain a vent path. Do not force a non-return valve. Stop at the handbook amount or when the pack is empty; never guess that the tank needs the complete 5 litres.

AdBlue can leave white urea crystals as water evaporates. On an external body surface, rinse promptly with plenty of clean water following the vehicle instructions; do not let residue sit in seams or electrical connectors. The vehicle calculates AdBlue range and may impose a no-restart condition when depleted, but warning logic differs. Add at least the handbook's minimum recognised refill and follow any ignition-cycle or reset instructions. Do not repeatedly cycle the starter, erase codes or overfill in an attempt to clear a warning. Some faults require diagnostic confirmation of level, quality, heater, pump, injector, sensors or catalyst.
