Autosol develops cleaning and polishing products for distinct metals and finishes. The AutoMotoPart selection includes specialist pastes for stainless steel, uncoated aluminium and chrome-plated plastic, a scratch remover for compatible clear plastics, multi-purpose metal polish in two sizes and a liquid chrome cleaner. Similar packaging does not make their abrasive action or substrate boundaries interchangeable.

Five of the seven listings are 75ml tubes, but each specialist name controls its task. Two products are Multi-Purpose Metal Polish in 75ml and 750ml sizes; the same formulation name makes pack volume the main distinction there. Liquid Chrome Cleaner is the only 250ml liquid. The evidence does not support using any one product across all vehicle surfaces.
Build a reliable shortlist
Determine whether the part is solid metal, plated metal, chrome-plated plastic, anodised aluminium, lacquered metal, painted trim or clear synthetic glazing. Check for a protective topcoat and establish whether the target is dirt, tarnish, oxidation, haze or a physical scratch before selecting the mildest suitable product.

If material identity remains uncertain, pause rather than choosing Multi-Purpose by default. A hidden chrome-look plastic or clear-coated alloy can be permanently dulled before a test patch reveals the mistake.
Scratch Remover for compatible clear plastics
Autosol describes its 75ml Scratch Remover for worn and finely scratched synthetic glazing such as compatible convertible rear windows, plastic lenses, instrument panels, visors and windscreens. Those examples are conditional on the component allowing polish. Optical coatings, hard coats, tints and anti-fog layers may react differently, and a safety-critical visor may require replacement rather than abrasive restoration.
Clean both sides to identify where the defect lies and remove grit without dry wiping. Test away from the main field of view, use a clean soft applicator and work only the small area directed. Deep gouges, cracks, crazing, delamination or distortion will not become structurally safe through polishing. Reinspect in daylight and at night because local optical distortion or glare may be more apparent under point light.
Stainless steel and aluminium products
Stainless Steel Polish & Cleaner is formulated for polished stainless surfaces and Autosol instructs application with a soft cloth followed by buffing after the characteristic residue develops. A brushed stainless grain should not automatically be polished in circles because local gloss can change. Identify decorative coatings and follow the appliance or component maker where finish direction matters.
Aluminium Polish & Cleaner is an ammonia-free product specified by Autosol for uncoated aluminium. Many vehicle wheels, trim pieces and engine components are anodised, painted, lacquered or clear-coated, so visible aluminium colour is insufficient. Oxidation under a failed clearcoat needs refinishing, not aggressive rubbing through the remaining coating. Avoid polished residue entering bearings, belt paths or electrical connectors.
M1 chrome-plated plastic polish
M1 is a specialist cleaning polish for chrome-plated synthetic materials. Autosol describes fine polishing substances and minimal abrasion because decorative chrome on plastic can be far thinner and more vulnerable than solid metal plating. This makes M1 the relevant candidate for supported plastic chrome, but it still cannot repair peeling, bubbling, cracks or exposed base plastic.
Confirm that the trim is actually chrome-plated plastic and not painted silver, vacuum-metallised under lacquer or wrapped film. Work by hand with very light pressure and keep product from textured surrounds. Stop immediately if the cloth picks up coating colour or the surface becomes patchy. Pressure washers and strong solvents can worsen damaged plating after the polish is removed.
Multi-Purpose Metal Polish and liquid cleaner
Multi-Purpose Metal Polish appears in 75ml and 750ml sizes. Autosol lists metals including chrome, aluminium, stainless steel, copper and brass and describes removal of oxidation, corrosion and stains with a protective finish. Material suitability still depends on the surface being an appropriate polishable metal rather than a delicate coating, brushed effect or intentionally patinated finish.
Liquid Chrome Cleaner is a separate 250ml cleaning and care format for listed metallic surfaces. Shake or dispense only as its label directs and prevent liquid flowing into joints or porous materials. Do not infer that the word chrome permits use on every chrome-look plastic. Use the smallest amount that works and buff away residue before it hardens around badges and seams.
Preparation, cloth control and inspection
Wash and dry the part, then decontaminate safely so embedded grit cannot cut random tracks. Work in shade on a cool surface and protect neighbouring rubber, paint, textured plastic and openings. Wear the protection and provide ventilation stated in the safety data. Never use a powered pad unless Autosol and the component maker approve the speed, material and process.
Assign separate applicators and buffing cloths to aluminium, chrome and harder metals, labelling them if reused. Fold to expose a clean face and replace any cloth dropped on the floor. After polishing, inspect under diffuse and direct light from several angles. Remove all residue, wash hands and store containers closed. Reassess corrosion or scratches that remain instead of escalating pressure automatically.
