Norton is Saint-Gobain Abrasives' cutting, grinding and surface-finishing brand. The current eight-item collection is a compact bodywork-preparation range: four fine wet-and-dry paper grades, three six-sheet project packs organised around primer, topcoat or polish preparation, and one powered 115mm Blaze depressed-centre stripping disc. Four listings are fifty-sheet wet-and-dry packs at P1200, P1500, P2000 and P2500. Three project packs contain six sheets selected for primer, topcoat or polishing preparation. Blaze is the only powered disc and the only 115mm product. Its coarse open-web stripping construction, 22mm bore and grinder use mean it must never be selected merely because it appears alongside paint-preparation papers.
Build a reliable shortlist
Work backwards from the next coating or polishing stage. Primer needs a clean keyed substrate within its technical data; topcoat preparation must avoid scratches too deep to cover; polish preparation aims to refine supported defects without consuming unnecessary clearcoat. Select the least aggressive grade that can achieve the documented result.

Do not skip directly to a very fine paper when a deeper, safely removable defect needs an earlier supported grade; it can waste time and create uneven pressure. Equally, do not begin coarser than necessary. At edges, swages and repainted areas, stop earlier and reassess because coating may be thinner.
P1200 to P2500 wet-and-dry paper
P1200 is the coarsest of the four listed sheets, followed by P1500, P2000 and P2500. That sequence can refine the previous scratch pattern, but each step should be chosen from the paint or material process. Use a clean compatible block on flatter panels, light even pressure and overlapping strokes so fingertips do not create grooves.
For wet use, soak only if the paper instructions require it and use clean lubricant water. Rinse the sheet and surface often, keeping slurry from joints, bare metal and absorbent fillers. Replace paper that creases, tears or traps debris. After each grade, clean and dry completely before deciding whether the earlier marks have been removed uniformly.
Primer, topcoat and polish preparation packs
The three project packs are stage-labelled: primer preparation, topcoat preparation and polish preparation. Each contains six sheets and a guide, but do not assume the contents suit every coating. Read the sheet grades in the actual pack and compare them with the primer, topcoat or clearcoat manufacturer's required preparation window.
Keep packs separate and mark used sheets so a coarser abrasive does not return during final refinement. Primer must be fully cured before sanding; topcoat preparation must remove dust nibs and defects without exposing edges; polish preparation must leave a scratch fine enough for the supported compound and pad. Clean residue between every stage.
Blaze 115mm stripping disc
Norton Blaze Rapid Strip uses an open non-woven web with ceramic abrasive to remove surface rust, residue, scale and coatings while reducing loading. The current disc is 115mm with a 22mm bore and depressed centre. It is designed for a compatible right-angle grinder and large surfaces, not for fine clearcoat levelling or use on a drill spindle.
Use only when the disc maximum RPM meets or exceeds the grinder speed and mounting matches the Norton and machine instructions. Fit the correct guard and side handle, orient the guard between operator and disc, and hold the tool securely. Apply only the supported pressure and angle. Stop for vibration, damage, unusual sound or loss of control, and never set a running grinder down.
Dust, sparks, water and workplace safety
Sanding dust can contain paint pigments, filler, metal and old coating whose hazards are not visible. Use extraction and respiratory, eye, skin and hearing protection from the risk assessment. Isolate ignition sources and combustible materials where the disc may create sparks. Treat unknown historic coatings as requiring identification before disturbance.
Wet sanding reduces airborne dust but introduces slippery slurry, contaminated water and electrical risk. Keep powered tools and leads away unless designed for the wet process, contain runoff and dispose of residue appropriately. Wear clean gloves so skin oils do not contaminate a prepared panel, and protect nearby vehicles from abrasive dust and sparks.
Edges, corrosion and completion checks
Paint is vulnerable on edges, corners and raised lines, where a block or machine concentrates removal. Mask or reduce work in those areas and inspect frequently. Remove corrosion to the extent required by the approved repair, but do not use the Blaze texture to hide pitting, perforation or weakened metal beneath filler or coating.
After sanding, clean the surface with the coating-system method and inspect dry under side lighting. Check for remaining deep marks, pinholes, exposed substrate and contaminated seams. Record the final Norton grade and any powered stripping area so primer, compound or next coating can be matched without repeating unnecessary abrasion.

The P-number must remain attached to the product. A fifty-sheet P1200 pack and P2500 pack look similar but cut differently; the three project packs contain mixed sheets for named stages. The 115mm Blaze disc is a powered stripping product with its own machine and safety marking.
