Prestone is a cooling-system and winter-care brand. The current eight-item collection is built around Cor-Guard coolant/antifreeze in ready-to-use and concentrated formats, plus two windscreen de-icers. Seven entries are classified as maintenance and one twenty-litre ready-to-use pack has a product-specific grouping. Ready-to-use and concentrate each appear in one-, four- and twenty-litre sizes. Treat the cooling system as a sealed temperature-control circuit. A low level may reflect ordinary service, a leak, an incorrect fill or an engine fault. Identify the reason before choosing a top-up or full change. Then calculate actual system volume and required concentration, allowing for water that remains after flushing.

Prestone officially states its current coolant can mix with other coolant colours, but that does not make every non-Prestone chemistry universally mixable or cure contamination. Where fluid is unknown, degraded or dirty, follow the vehicle and Prestone instructions for inspection, flushing and refill rather than using colour as evidence.
Ready-to-use Cor-Guard coolant
The one-, four- and twenty-litre ready-to-use products are pre-mixed. Confirm the container says ready to use before pouring. On a cold engine, locate the correct expansion tank, compare level with its markings and add gradually without overfilling. Replace the cap fully and remove spilled coolant through the vehicle and product guidance.
A larger pack suits a larger service quantity, not a different formula by default. Check the product code and batch label, especially where a workshop decants from twenty litres. Use clean dedicated funnels and containers; oil, screenwash, tap-water residue or dirt can contaminate the system. Never return drained coolant to the fresh pack.
Concentrated coolant and exact mixing
Prestone's official concentrate table gives different ratios for different freeze points, including one part Prestone to two parts water, one to 1.5, one to one and two to one. Choose only the protection required by current product and vehicle guidance and use de-ionised water. Do not interpret concentrate as maximum protection when used neat unless the exact table says so.
Measure both components in a clean compatible vessel or fill through the specified sequence so the final system concentration is known. Account for retained flush water. Label any prepared mixture with product, ratio and date. Do not store it in a drink bottle or leave an open twenty-litre container where moisture and dirt can enter.
Drain, flush, refill and bleed
For complete replacement, make the engine cold, isolate it against starting and open drains only through the workshop method. Capture every outlet, including radiator or block points where specified. Inspect hoses, cap, pump, radiator, heater and reservoir for the reason the service is needed. A flush cannot repair a split hose, leaking seal or combustion-gas fault.
Close drains, refill at the specified rate and operate heater valves, bleed screws, vacuum equipment or diagnostic functions exactly as the vehicle requires. Run only in a ventilated safe area while monitoring temperature and leaks. Allow full cooling, recheck level and protection, and never assume cabin heat alone proves all air is removed.
Aerosol and trigger de-icers
Rapid De-Icer aerosol uses a pressurised can; the trigger version is manually sprayed. First switch wipers off, remove snow and ensure the glass is not cracked or hot. Apply to the exterior through the stated distance and dwell, keeping spray away from eyes, intake openings and materials excluded by the label. Never use boiling water on frozen glass.
Aerosol cans must remain away from smoking, flame, sparks and hot surfaces, and must not be punctured or left in extreme cabin heat. After ice softens, use a clean suitable scraper without damaging glass, seals or embedded elements. Free wiper blades by hand only when safe and do not operate them over bonded ice or a dry abrasive surface.
Coolant safety, waste and fault boundaries
Ethylene-glycol coolant is harmful if swallowed and spills can attract animals. Keep packs sealed, upright and inaccessible; wear the protection shown in the safety data and wash exposed skin. Absorb spills promptly and prevent liquid entering surface drains or soil. Use an approved household or trade waste route for old coolant.
Stop and diagnose if level drops again, coolant contains oil or debris, hoses harden abnormally, exhaust vapour persists or the engine overheats. Do not open the cap to relieve a hot system. A refill may restore level temporarily, but it does not prove the thermostat, pump, fan, radiator, cap or engine sealing is sound.

Ready-to-use and concentrate titles can differ by one word, so retain the full Prestone reference. The twenty-litre packs need especially clear labelling after decanting. De-icer pack size and delivery method never make it suitable for a cooling or washer reservoir.
