Do not select Instant merely because the repair is small. Ninety seconds may be too short to wet, align and fixture a complex joint. Conversely, a long-working Standard product is unsuitable where parts cannot remain supported for its much longer handling period.

Standard for long positioning time

The live Standard products provide the longest working and handling schedule in this selection. That helps when a joint needs careful alignment, a larger adhesive spread or several fixtures. The current Araldite site markets a long-working Ultra Strong family, but do not assume it is chemically identical to a Standard pack; follow the MPN and instructions supplied with the item.

Prepare and fixture before mixing, apply an even layer to the supported face and maintain alignment for the full handling period. The live evidence calls for a much longer route to full strength than Rapid or Instant. Low workshop temperature can slow cure further, so never judge readiness only by leftover adhesive on the mixing card.

Rapid and Instant are separate fast systems

Araldite Rapid has an official five-minute working time, a 20-minute handling time and two-hour full-strength period at the stated conditions. The twin tubes require manual proportioning and mixing; the 24ml syringe uses an instant-mix format. That dispensing convenience does not permit dirty surfaces, poor fit or movement during cure.

Instant 90 Sec is faster again, with a translucent setting colour and a four-minute handling time on the current official page. Complete the dry run, fixture and safety setup before opening it. Official guidance excludes expanded polystyrene in addition to polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE and specifically says not to use it for a rear-view mirror bonded to a windscreen.

Steel or Metal formula boundaries

The live Steel 2x15ml product is aimed at most common metals and has a grey cured appearance. Current official pages use Araldite Metal wording, but exact pack identity still controls. Confirm support for steel, galvanised steel, cast iron, aluminium, copper, brass or any non-metal before dispensing.

Metal-focused epoxy is not a welding replacement and does not restore a corroded load path. Remove oxidation to sound material and design a broad supported joint. Do not use it on brake components, steering, wheels, lifting equipment, fuel tanks, exhausts, pressure vessels or structural vehicle parts unless the equipment maker provides an adhesive repair procedure for that exact product.

Syringes, tubes and uniform mixing

For twin tubes, dispense the proportion stated on the pack onto a clean non-absorbent mixing surface using separate cap discipline. Blend resin and hardener thoroughly, including the edges, until colour and texture are uniform. Avoid folding in excess air and never thin epoxy with solvent or add extra hardener to accelerate it.

For a dual syringe, confirm both chambers advance and the nozzle or outlet supplies both components evenly. Purge or prepare only as its usage sheet directs. Replace the correct closure without cross-contamination after use. If one side has crystallised, leaked, separated or stopped flowing, do not use an off-ratio mix simply to empty the other chamber.

Cure, exposure control and finishing

Keep uncured adhesive off skin, clothing and the vehicle interior. Use the glove material and eye protection specified by the current resin and hardener sheets, provide ventilation and keep children and pets away. Absorb spills by the safety-sheet method and prevent either component entering drains or watercourses.

Leave the assembly supported until its handling time has passed, then avoid rough handling until full strength. Thick pooled epoxy can become hot, while a thin cold bond may cure slowly. Sand or drill only fully cured material with dust control and eye protection. Store remaining components dry at room temperature in their original sealed pack and discard mixed residue under local guidance.
