Selecting a HELLA headlight

A modern headlight is an optical, mechanical and electronic assembly. Start with fitting side and body application, then establish the light source: conventional halogen bulb, gas-discharge xenon, fixed LED or an adaptive LED system. The housing, reflector or projector, heat management, control unit and beam pattern are designed together. A bulb base that can be made to fit does not prove that the lamp will produce a legal or safe beam.

UK road use normally requires a dipped-beam pattern for left-hand traffic, with glare controlled for oncoming traffic. Rear lamps, fog lamps and signal lighting

Rear-light assemblies differ by left or right side, saloon, hatchback, estate or van body, and position on the body or tailgate. Facelift styling can change connectors and lamp functions as well as lens appearance. Identify whether the assembly uses replaceable bulbs and a carrier, integrated LEDs, or a combination. Wheel-speed and engine sensors

Wheel-speed sensors support ABS and can feed stability, traction, hill-hold and other functions. Passive inductive and active sensors require different test methods. An active sensor needs power and produces an electronic signal; checking resistance as if it were a passive coil can be misleading.
