Do not spray through an unknown hole or seal a drain because it appears to provide good coverage. Confirm what lies behind every access point, including wiring, trim, airbags and hot components.
Cavity rust treatment
Waxoyl cavity treatment is a waxy fluid for doors, panels, sills, box sections and internal structures. Warmth may affect flow, but heat only within official limits and never with flame. Use access wands or spray patterns that coat seams without pooling excessively.
Probe drains before and after application and remove overspray from weather seals or windows by a supported method. Refit bungs after the stated ventilation and drying time. Clear treatment aids visual retention of original finish; black can provide visual coverage, but neither colour changes required preparation.
Underbody Seal
Underbody Seal faces stone, water and salt exposure on wheel arches and floor panels. Scrape loose old coating and inspect metal. Repair corrosion properly, then feather sound edges. Apply the stated coat thickness rather than using texture to conceal defects.
Keep coating off jacking points where inspection is needed, threaded service parts, rubber mounts unless compatible, brake pipes requiring examination and all heat sources. Verify exhaust clearance and dry before driving on roads where debris could embed in the film.
Aerosol, Schutz, tin and refill formats
Aerosols suit controlled local work but still create drifting mist and flammable vapour. Schutz cans require a compatible gun, air supply and pressure. Tins may use brush or specified equipment. Five-litre refills need labelled decanting and spill control.
Do not thin or mix products unless the instructions permit it. Keep equipment dedicated because old underbody material can block a cavity nozzle. Check hoses and seals, release pressure and clean without discharging solvent into drains.
Masking, fire and exposure control
Create a no-ignition zone and ventilate cavities and work area. Vapour can collect inside sills, pits and enclosed garages. Stop nearby grinding, welding, heaters and smoking. Use lighting and electrical equipment suitable for the assessed atmosphere.
Wear safety data PPE and protect skin from repeated contact. Overspray makes floors slippery, so sheet and contain the area. Never spray near hot exhaust or immediately after running the vehicle; allow complete cooling.
Inspection and renewal
After drying, inspect with lights and mirrors without probing soft coating into drains. Look for missed seams, runs, blocked holes and contamination. Refit liners only when film will not transfer or trap wet material.
Review protection periodically and after welding, collision repair or underbody impact. Remove failed coating locally and investigate moisture entry. New rust bleeding through or swelling beneath the film requires repair rather than another blanket coat.
Door bottoms and sill ends deserve a second check because excess material can migrate towards their drains. Confirm seals, glass channels and trim remain clean. For underbody work, examine edges around liners and seams where road spray can work behind an incomplete film.
