Start with the vehicle and head unit
Record the vehicle make, model, body style, build date and dashboard version. Registration-based data can narrow the choice, but inspect the actual connector and aperture because factory navigation, premium audio and mid-production changes can alter the installation. Record the head unit's single- or double-DIN chassis, connector sockets, aerial input and any separate microphone, USB or camera connections.
List the functions that must remain. Fascia panels, cages and release keys
A fascia provides a finished transition between the dashboard and replacement radio, but it must not be used to force an oversized or misaligned installation. Compare photographs as a secondary check after the Celsus reference and application notes. Pay attention to left- or right-hand-drive distinctions where stated, climate-control layout, factory screen, hazard switch and button positions.
Remove original trim with the correct sequence and non-damaging tools. Hidden screws, spring clips and airbag-related panels may be close to the radio. Use release keys intended for the latch design, insert them in the required orientation and pull evenly; excessive levering can bend the cage or mark the dashboard.
When fitting a cage, fold only the necessary retention tabs onto strong surfaces. Ensure the radio locks and can still be removed by its intended method. Support heavy or deep units as specified, route plugs without crushing them and leave ventilation openings clear. Test first, then complete final clipping of the fascia.
Aerial bands, mounting and reception
AM/FM and DAB operate through different broadcast arrangements, so an antenna must be designed for the required service. Active aerials contain amplification and require the stated supply. A passive aerial does not. Route signal cables away from high-current power wiring where practical and cross it at right angles if necessary. Protect all cable passes through metal, add strain relief and secure the loom without overtightening ties. Do not run wiring through airbag deployment paths, seat runners or sharp trim edges.
Power, fusing and factory systems
Before disconnecting the battery, follow vehicle guidance for keys, alarms, battery monitoring, security codes and window or steering calibration. Some vehicles need a prescribed shutdown period. Never probe an unknown connector with a test lamp that could load a sensitive circuit; use suitable diagrams and measuring equipment.
Any added power circuit needs conductor size and fuse protection appropriate to its current and length. Place the fuse close to the source so most of the wire is protected. A larger fuse is not a cure for nuisance operation. Find the short, excessive load, poor termination or incorrect cable first.
Factory amplified and networked systems often need an active interface, not only a plug conversion. If sound is absent, excessively loud, distorted or accompanied by warnings, turn the system off and verify the interface, gain structure and wiring rather than experimenting with random pin changes.
Acoustic cloth, carpet, tape and adhesive
Acoustic cloth is intended to allow sound through while covering a grille; carpet provides a finish for enclosures or trim. Cut materials with allowance for curves and seams, dry-fit before applying adhesive and keep fabric clear of speaker cones, vents, latches and moving parts. An acoustically open cloth is not a structural grille or impact guard.
Use adhesive and tape only on compatible, clean surfaces within their stated temperature and preparation requirements. Read the safety data and ventilation instructions for spray products.
